We began working on fractions today! We shared out all of the things we know about fractions and began making different fractions. We reviewed that fractions are a part of a whole or set. We learned that the bottom number of a fraction is the denominator and the top number is the numerator. We worked in small groups to divide a Hershey chocolate bar into equal parts and write the matching fraction. We also worked in pairs to come up with real-life examples of fractions. The following are just a few of the ideas the students shared:
money
pizza
shapes
apples
Earth (hemispheres)
steak
pie
cake
toys
time
room
