Multi-Digit Multiplication

We began working on multiplying 2-, 3-, and 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. We learned how to multiply each top number by the bottom number. We also learned how to carry the number to the next column, just like addition. Each student used Mapquest to calculate the number of miles traveled to his/her spring break destination. Then each student took that number and multiplied it by 2 to get the round-trip miles traveled on his/her vacation. We will continue to work on this type of multiplication as we practice in small groups and pairs.
